Car Wash vs. Auto Detailing

Most vehicle owners assume a car wash service is similar to car detailing. This assumption is far from the truth.

A car wash focuses on removing debris and dirt from your car's surface and usually doesn't involve other services. In most cases, the detailer uses microfiber cloths to dry the car and then stores it in a shaded area awaiting collection or delivery to the owner. You can wash your car by machine, but a hand wash is also effective if you choose and use the proper procedure and products.

Full details are more comprehensive. It involves a regular car wash coupled with exterior and interior detailing. The exterior detailing involves paint correction, headlight restoration, and paint protection services.

The Auto Detailing Process

A regular car wash is the first step in the auto detailing process. After washing the car, the detailer will dry it with a microfiber cloth to avoid swirl marks on the surface, store it away from the sun, and prepare it for the next detailing procedure. For full detailing, the detailer would decide whether to begin with an exterior or interior detail. In most cases, the order is irrelevant.

Exterior Detailing

Exterior detailing ensures that the exterior of the vehicle looks as good as new. The detailer will most likely begin by giving the clean car surface a clay bar treatment on the clear coat to remove any embedded impurities. While working with the clay bar, the detailers will feel the surface with their palms for any irregularities before polishing the car's surface. The polish will make the surface of your car shine, but a full detail will go much further.

If you haven't decided on paint protection yet, the detailer will walk you through all of your options. The detailer should explain all of the benefits of paint protection compounds such as ceramic coating, ppf films, wax, and sealants and recommend the best option for your budget or package. Once you've decided on an option, the detailer will apply it before moving on to headlight restoration, glass cleaning, and tire cleaning

.

Full interior detail

The detailer will clean your car's interior, remove the floor mats, clean them, and lay them out to dry. While the floor mats are drying, the detailer will vacuum the floor and seats to remove any dirt that has become trapped between the floor and seat crevices. If your car has leather seats, the detailer will protect and restore the leather with leather compounds. After finishing with the seats, the auto detailer will move on to the center console and dashboard.

The detailer will use a set of special brushes to thoroughly clean your console and ensure that all areas around the dashboard and console are clean. Finally, the detailer will clean the door panels, replace anything that was dismantled or removed during the process, wipe down the interior and exterior one more time, and prepare the vehicle for delivery or collection.
